Surf Industry awards SURFTECH - 2006 Board Builder of the Year!
Surf Industry Manufacturer’s Surf Summit, San Jose Del Cabo

The right points of Cabo were serving up head high plus waves all week long for the 9th annual SIMA Surf Summit, May 18–21, 2006. The surf industry gathered in San Jose Del Cabo to enjoy surf, sun, seminars and the presentation of the 2006 SIMA Image Awards. “These awards are the “Academy Awards of the Surf Industry,” said Sean Smith, Executive Director of SIMA. 500 plus industry members as well as the nominees in eight award categories waited with expectant celebratory excitement as the nominees were introduced and the awards presented. Surftech was nominated in both the “Board Builder of the Year” and “Manufacturer of the Year” categories. This marks the first time that a surfboard builder has ever been nominated for the “Manufacturer of the Year award”.
Following Channel Islands Surfboards’, one of Surftech’s top selling shortboard lines, two-year streak receiving the “Board Builder of the Year” honors, it was finally our turn to hoist the BBY award overhead and claim victory! “I guess the third time was the charm” exclaimed Surftech General Manager John Griffith, referring to Surftech’s nomination in this category for the past two years.
This award is shared by our family of more than 50 legendary shapers worldwide, as well as top Pro and Amateur Team Riders, the Surf Retailers that fill their racks with Surftech boards and the thousands of surfers who have cast their votes by making Surftech boards their boards of choice.
In spite of this accomplishment, Surftech is not slowing down. For many companies, this award would be the pinnacle of their achievements. Not the case with Surftech. In 2006 we released our new waterproof TECHLITE core, which sent shockwaves throughout the surfing world and made our already technically-advanced boards that much better. In summer 2006 Surftech will launch our revolutionary new “TL2” surfboard line which once again raises the surfboard technology bar significantly. “We’re honored to be voted “Board Builder of the Year” and will continue to push surfboard performance to higher and higher levels” continued Griffith.
