As Barbados is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is East of the Caribbean island chain, swells coming from any direction often result in great Surfing on the island. Barbados' warm climate also ensures that Surfing year round is in warm water where there is never a need for a wet suit. Surf conditions in Barbados cater to every level of Surfer. Your Surf trip can vary from a relaxing one where you Surf the gently sloping waves of the South Coast to an adventure to Soup Bowl's (Bathsheba) barreling right break.
SOUTH COAST(breaks on a East Swell with wind)
Surf on the South Coast varies from gently sloping long left breaks to steeper barrels lefts. The Surf spot you choose will determine whether you have a leisurely Surf session or a more daring Surfing experience.
Surf spots on the South Coast
Freights: a fun long left to learn to surf on as it is located in a protected bay that minimizes current and size and keeps conditions clean. Location: Atlantic Shores, Christ Church
South Point: a steeper, more powerful left that can be hollow and barreling if you are up for it. Location: Atlantic Shores, Christ Church
Silver Sands: a short beach break that is mainly a right. Location: Silver Sands, Christ Church.
Brandons: a super long left that attracts all kinds of surfers from the surfer who sits in the peak to the beginner who comfortably waits on the shoulder. Brandons also has a beautiful beach for spectators if you family would like to come along. Location: Opposite the Garrison Savannah, St. Michael.
EAST COAST ( breaks on a North and South East Swell) This coast offers more powerful, larger waves and is the home of world famous "Soup Bowl" at Bathsheba.
Surf Spots on the East Coast
Soup Bowl: a powerful and at times a very big wave that attracts many pros from all over the world. Soup Bowl is a right point surf break that has a beautiful beach that consists of natural pools which are fun for spectators. Location: Bathsheba, St. Joseph.
High Rock: a fun powerful left for surfers who want to escape the crowd at Soup Bowl. Location: Bathsheba, St. Joseph.
Parlor: A left and right break that is not as steep as Soup Bowl but gets even bigger depending on the swell. Location: Bathsheba, St. Joseph
Sand Bank: A powerful left and right beach break that can be super fun but watch out for the current. Location: Cattlewash, St. Joseph.
Surf Spots on the West Coast (only break when there is a North Swell)
Batts Rock: a fun left that can be powerful when big.
Church Point: a short, right point break.
Tropicana: a perfectly barreling steep left. Watch out for the fire coral though!
Maycocks: a long right that is super fun.
Surf Sports on the North Coast
North Point: left and right break, that forms along the rock in the middle and reforms on the inside.
Duppies: long perfect right point break, that can get very big and powerful. There is a strong current but it is worth the paddle.
