ZARAUTZ PRO SURF 3 STAR WQS IS BACK ON THE 2007 TOUR

After eight years of break on the international schedule, the beautiful basque city of Zarautz is proud to welcome the 3 Star WQS Zarautz Pro Surf, from September 13th to 16th 2007. Standing on a great past in surfing’s history, Zarautz was one of the world’s most attended event the past , the city offering a great surfing potential, backed up by the local culture and warm traditional welcome to surfers from around the world.
 
Yesterday was held the official press conference, on the beautiful beach of Zarautz where all officials gathered to give the kick off to the upcoming World Qualifying Series event sacntionned by ASP Europe. Mainly supported by Zarautz’s City Hall and telecommunications company Euskaltel, the Club de Surf Zarautz and event logistics organizer Streetmarketing revealed the official poster to the press.


ASP Europe’s new president Dave Mailman had kind words for this official comeback. “Zarautz was one of the first events in Europe, and was a inevitable stop for all professionals in the past, thanks to its professionalism and warm welcome to people from around the world. The Association of Surfing Professionals will work sides to sides with all partners and sponsors to make this comeback on the ASP WQS Tour schedule a great success, and thanks all orgainzers for making the event possible.”

The comitment and involvment for surfing in Zarautz has already made the basque city world famous, and the new generation coming out of the Club de Surf Zarautz, is on its way towards fame. The two local sons Aritz Aranburu and Hodei Collazo have been around the world for years already, and Aritz is sitting in the international top 10, getting closer to a qualification for the elite top 45 next year. Hodei remains one of the best europeans and prooved all his talent when he almost defeated ASP wolrd champion and legend Kelly Slater in Mundaka last year.
 
Ivan San Martin, contest director and director of the 300 member surf club, started the project of the Zarautz Pro Surf months ago, and managed to take it to its end, supported by an enthusiastic population, delighted to have their event back on. “It all started with a simple idea, to remind the world that Zaraut’s surfing spirit is definitely alive and that everything that made it successful in the past remains. With Aritz holding high our colours around the world, Hodei following close and a whole group of upcoming junior talents as Mario Azurza or Indar Unanue, surfing is part of our life.”

The Zarautz Pro Surf is a 3 Star WQS event sanctionned by ASP Europe, and offers a $50 000 prizepurse. The event will count for both 2007 WQS and European Pro Surf Tour ratings and will offer high performance action. It is presented by the City Hall ZARAUSKO UDALA, the ZARAUSKO TOURISMO BULEGOA and mainly sponsored by EUSKALTEL. The official partners are ELECTRIC, the basque surfing federation EHSF, the daily news EL DIARIO VASCO, BURN, GIPUZKOA KIROLAK. The bank CAJA LABORAL, the surfing magazine SURFER RULE, TELEPIZZA and FIAT KUATO will be the official contributors.
